Again, I get that they're supposed to be characterized this way, that it's how Charlotte was molded to be who she is, etc., etc. I really enjoyed A Study in Scarlet Women so you can have a gender flipped Sherlock Holmes that doesn't make you loathe the character. Or that Sherlock didn't know right from wrong. Her depiction of him doesn't gibe with the Jamie we've been given for two books. The only thing that kept me reading {and I literally jumped from 40% to 75% because I was losing interest} was that I ship Jamie and Charlotte.
I think they're such an interesting duo, they're real different and yet two sides of the same coin. However, there were a couple things about this particular book that I didn't love.
