Then there's Rand, who sets out to cleanse Saidin at the beginning of the book, however, rather than the story naturally moving towards that point, Rand just spends most of it hunting down the traitor Asha'man, making his story feel kind of disjointed. In a thousand lives, I never have. Rand al'Thor is one of the main Wheel of Time protagonists, and he's widely beloved. Morraine – accompanied by her personal guard, the Warder Lan Mandragoran – has spent the last two decades searching for The Dragon Reborn – the reincarnation of a ruler from 1000 years ago who fought and captured The Dark One. For instance, it looks like the first season of the show will skip over the section where our heroes go to the city of Caemlyn, instead introducing some of those elements later. — A Memory of Light. These things held The Fires of Heaven back but, otherwise, I loved this book.

Wheel Of Time Explained
The latter, saidin, is tainted at the time of the story (it didn't used to be). Even the White Tower itself is no longer a place of safety. What happens to Rand al'Thor in Wheel of Time? Book Eight – The Path of Daggers.
Rand must not only work through his own fears and doubts but also learn the myriad of customs and religions and, somehow, get the countries together so they can fight The Last Battle. The last battle has been written and, for its readers, well and truly lived. Each character has their own journey to take, their own battles to fight, before they can come together to fight The Dark One at The Last Battle. I will start with Perrin's storyline, since it is undoubtedly one of the best in The Wheel of Time. She is the third woman to claim Rand's love, and the first of Rand's three lovers to sleep with him. Aviendha's storyline about the potential dark future of the Aeil and the Seanchan was also quite chilling and raised a lot of interesting questions that we still don't know the answers to, but in a way that I actually like. I was so invested in the characters by this point that I cared little that books 9 (Winter's Heart) and 10 (Crossroads of Twilight) could easily have been reduced to one volume. It's a sprawling world with more intricacies than even Game of Thrones, so we'll stick to the basics. It's her that leads the group out of their home and into the wide world.
Perrin's storyline of trying to save Faile from the Shaido is still dragging its feet with very little progression. But when the balefire streams cross, it creates an unexpected paradox that leaves Rand and Moridin mentally linked. Reading The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt, I was quite confused about why Mat was many people's favourite character, since he did not leave a very favourable impression in those two books. We will often bring up other nerd culture things if we think they're related - like Marvel, GoT, Star Wars, LoTR, Harry Potter, Star Trek etcetera. The debut novel in the Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World was first published in 1990. With the growing scope of the story, Jordan swapped to a biennial schedule to accommodate for the extra care he needed to take while crafting the middle section of the books. It is quite a commitment to read these books, with thousands of pages to read and many characters to keep track of, with it taking me almost a year to complete the entire series. Some dragging parts of course, but overall a good continuation. There Are How Many Books?!
Wheel Of Time The Slog Queen
Also it was a shame to see that there was no Mat POV in this book, especially since his story ended on a cliffhanger in A Crown of Swords. Aside from the issues with Mat's character, The Gathering Storm is a fantastic read and was a phenomenal start for Brandon Sanderson in picking up from where Robert Jordan left off. And that's the premise of the Amazon Prime Video adaptation too: Moiraine takes these youths out into the world and… so, so much happens. With the way the female characters laugh at Mat about it, it feels more like Jordan is just depicting Mat being shamed, rather than making an effective commentary about it. Let tears flow, O ye people of the world. The Sole Survivor: "Why did the mayor throw you out? He has the ability to channel the One Power, the force that drives the turning of the Wheel of Time.
Finally, there is the beginning of the White Tower conflict, as Suian is deposed and stilled, leading to Min having to rescue her and Leanne, before escaping with Logain, in turn setting up his glory plotline, another storyline that greatly intrigued me to the end. Written by Robert Jordan and completed by Brandon Sanderson after Jordon's untimely death in 2007, The Wheel of Time consists of 15 novels (14 in the main series, plus one prequel). For starters, Rand Al' Thor is barely shown in this installment in the series, except at the very end, and while that end is indeed engaging and badass, there is a slog of monumental proportions to wade through for the 3/4 of this novel! Sadly, these great moments come right at the end, and they don't really redeem what came before, since it's mostly just set up.
On January 15th, 1990 TOR published Robert Jordan's The Eye of the World. Until then, I look forward to (hopefully) eight years of television on Amazon Prime, which I will be watching from day one with nervous anticipation. People kept telling me that it was among the weakest of the series, alongside Crossroads of Twilight. We want this to be a place that everyone looks forward to visiting, with smiling faces, good bargains, and great produce. In his unceasing effort to create unity against the Dark One's forces, he suggests a truce with the Seanchan. I saved the best part of the book for last, and this undoubtedly the chapter where Nynaeve rallies the men of Malkier to rush to Lan's aid, rising the Golden Crane.

Faile's capture takes away from the original plotline they were meant to follow: Masema's. We wake up, we brush our teeth, we eat breakfast, we go to school/work, we come back, we work some more, we go to sleep, and start over. Speaking of, one thing I knew coming into Towers of Midnight was that there would be a chapter focusing on a tiral that not a lot of readers liked. Believing they know best, the Aes Sedai want to train and ultimately control The Dragon Reborn. Some rank it high, some rank it in the middle, and some rank it low. And what a battle it turns out to be. Some Final Thoughts 🙂.
In a nutshell, it tells the story of the battle between good and evil, embodied here by the 'Dragon Reborn' and the Dark One. Second person is more jarring - I've read The Raven Tower and Harrow The Ninth recently, both being all or largely in second person. Sure, New Spring is pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme of the story but it is a good read that expands on future character motivation and fills in the blanks for some of the backstory. Writing and publishing take quite some time, as A Song of Ice and Fire readers are painfully aware of. Book Fourteen – A Memory of Light. So, if I enjoyed Rand's POV chapters and the final battle in Lord of Chaos so much, then why is it only at number eight? Book Six – Lord of Chaos. In order to explain its faults and salvations, though, it's time for me to go more in-depth. Through their bond to Rand, Min, Elayne, and Aviendha sense that this is what happened, and so they find no need to mourn their lover's death. First book or two are really differently paced from the end; those two should probably get bulked up a bit, and pulled fully into the final story lore. She is not the only character I was glad to see get the spotlight they deserve because Aviendha also finally gets page time again. Aside from female character perspectives being frustratingly one-dimensional and stereotypical, I found it great. The Prophecies of the Dragon predict the events of the current Age and indicate who the reincarnation of the Dragon is.
If you thought overanalyzing the prophecies in Game of Thrones was a hoot, just you wait. After finishing it, I could see why that is the case, even though it is not my personal favourite, since I like the two above it more. Elayne denies Rand's help to gain her throne, an action that inspires Tear to attempt casting out Rand's own forces. Offtopic November 2022. There are different rules when it comes to gaining the throne. The moment when she tells Min to remember her and another captured woman's names before they are removed by the Seanchan's torture was haunting. I'm not going to go through each book here, and neither will I review them in detail. They are busily preparing for Winternight and the Festival of Bel Tine, when they get a visit from Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai. Rand is a complicated character with a fascinating backstory and a character arc that forces him to grow and change.
I like a good plot as well though, but I prefer one that focuses on fewer characters in order to move forward with them more quickly. And, worse, Masema remains on-page as a loose canon, as if to remind readers that we're missing out on what probably would have been a much more interesting storyline. The characters uncover pieces of these prophecies as they progress on their journeys, so do not skip ahead and look them up, because spoilers. Prophesy foretells that The Dragon Reborn will either defeat The Dark One or join him and destroy the world. The conclusion for it in Knife of Dreams was fantastic, with a lot of tragedy to it as well, like with the death of Arram. It is a deal made with the Dark One, in his eyes, but he will do whatever is needed to rescue his wife, Faile, and destroy the Shaido who captured her. That said, I did quite enjoy his storyline in this book, with his stay in Hinderstap being especially horrifying. Although these characters lead us into the world, many more are introduced along the way. Soon the village is laid to waste, and Morraine escapes with five young men and women, one of whom is The Dragon Reborn.
