Reading what seems like a deliberate attempt to go back and forth so that all the loose threads can be tied together deftly in the end can get quite confusing. Feels like retelling the same event. I love her writing and her online persona. Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is a master story teller that both inspires and intrigues. I was absorbed in the characters and their situations from the first page. Obviously, my friend and I were as bewildered by this reaction as the colleague was by the (subjectively speaking) long stay. Visitors also looked at these books. Is it shocking that Sanjay confronts Tara at the thrift store, or is that after her accident? The book starts in the home of Sabitri in West Bengal, India. Written by: Deborah Levy. The title comes from a chance encounter one of these women has with a stranger, which is fitting because my favorite parts of the story deal with the small moments that change the course of a person's life, and the unlikely friendships that do the same. Several of the characters were involved in culinary businesses so there were tantalizing descriptions of Indian food throughout the book. The ending is wonderfully done too except for one question that remains unanswered and which is nagging me, urging me to shoot a mail to ma'am and ask her. My favourite character was definitely Sabitri, possibly because hers was the first story I read, but probably because she seemed like a strong woman. Everyone is 'right' and seems to know what is best for everyone 'else'. Chief Inspector Gamache/Three Pines Series, Book 15. As a first-generation American, she struggles with her identity in a very specific way that many of us can empathize with. Not that these relationships are without conflict, but we learn to forgive and forget. In this, the novel masquerades as a series of connected short stories. I enjoyed reading about these three women, especially Sabitri who achieved success in a very different way than she originally dreamed. Police Chief Nash Morgan is known for two things: Being a good guy and the way his uniform accentuates his butt. Oh wait, it's before. But the world was shocked in late 2017 when their bodies were found in a bizarre tableau in their elegant Toronto home. In terms of the novel's construction, I both like and dislike its compression and collage-like narration.
