What i would do is clean any connections that you haven't already cleaned even if they look OK, ground cable on both ends...? This electrical part is designed to redirect power from the battery to the starter solenoid, which then activates the starter to spin over the engine. Bob, If I remember correctly, on my 80 B, the diode for the brake failure was under the dash in the area of the glove box. However, when powered, it should send a signal to the starter relay once the key is turned or the starter button is pressed. This lead to the starter engaging while driving. They really should not go out the fast unless the starter is drawing too much current ( Amperage) Maybe damaging or burning the solenoid contacts.
