I think it had to do with the 9mm plate when I pieced I found that I had to purposely prevent the fabric from being eaten into the stitch plate! It has all of the features I want, throat space, speed, large stitch library, auto cutting, start/stop... For garment sewing, this is not a big deal, but when you are free-motion quilting or embroidering large, complex designs, you go through bobbin thread quickly and repeatedly stopping to refill the bobbin slows you down. So, what would I be giving up when I went from a previous top-of-the-line to today's mid-range machine? Why has it been discontinued? I just don't know how it would solidly hold a full quilt. It may be that those who are having trouble are the ones venting on the Internet, and those who are happy with their machines are too busy sewing to post on message boards, but the 8 Series bobbin system seems finicky to thread and needs to be threaded differently for embroidery versus regular sewing. Specifically with this Model I read that the first models on the market had considerable computer problems. The Free-Hand System (FHS) / Presser foot lifter lets you raise the presser foot and lower the feed dog with your knee. One of the things I love is the dual feed!!! Meaning, the presser foot automatically comes down when you press the button and firmly sets down when you begin sewing. This was the biggest waste of $5000 I ever spent in my life.
