Looking back at my Goodreads updates, I teared up twice before I even reached page 90, and if that doesn't tell you how invested I was in the characters and story very early on, I don't know what will. When one of the young men is the very first "Decker" called by Death-Cast their lives become entangled. Silvera starts at the very beginning of Death-cast and how the first 'Decker's life is intertwined with others. The story focuses around the main character "David Wong" (not his real name) and his penis-obsessed friend John who both unwittingly take the drug "soy sauce" which, rather than killing them like it has other people, has the permanent effect of enabling them to see creatures from another hell-like world for which they are landed with the job of saving their "undisclosed" town and the Earth, from take-over.
