Now, 40 years later, Meir Zarchi returns to his cinematic creation to bring fans the only official sequel to the original movie — I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE: DÉJÀ VU. In fact, it may be one of the worst movies I have watched. The extensive rape sequence remains disturbing, with the thugs employing the expected litany of misogynist epithets. Anchor Bay's soundtrack handles the surprisingly low-key track well enough. Sorry, preview is currently unavailable. 1 lossless soundtrack mimics the video transfer in that it's fine considering the source but not particularly exciting as a standalone entity.

I Spit on Your Grave is generally badly shot, but one image is quite haunting. Do you agree, disagree? Here, the film lingers on all of it save for one scene that sees Jennifer remove a man from his manhood with a pair of garden sheers, but even then there's a "surprise" visual that's sure to have every man in the world squirming. He then goes on to tear the film to such ribbons that over the years a certain type of film-goer thinks, "Let me see that for myself. While primaries are rendered accurately to give the gloomy picture a small shimmer of life, the color palette is dim and muted, keeping in line with the deliberate look. It's a difficult film to watch during the first half but satisfying to watch during the second half and that makes it extremely difficult to rate, but I figure any film that makes me that conflicted about whether or not I like it has probably done the job it intended to do so points for that! The actors said it took 3 weeks to shoot, 12 hours a day, but it felt more like they had banged it out in a few days. The reason why I watched this I never heard of this film before. We ordered a combo platter for me and a bowl of tofu for Angela. I went with Angela and John Dyck and we frickin' loved it. I feel guilty that I ever watched the original film and even guiltier that I have carried within me all these year a certain appreciation for its "revenge" message of alleged female empowerment. Everyone wants to think their $200 dinner was good, it takes courage to admit that it wasn't. Jennifer is a writer working on a new novel and, needing to get out of the city to finish it, hires a riverside apartment in upstate New York to finish her book—attracting the attention of a number of rowdy male locals. Atmosphere and a good story makes a good horror film and Betrothed is missing both. It was at this point that I realized my problem with Betrothed, a problem that would plague the film for my entire viewing… It has absolutely no atmosphere, absolutely no tone. Butler is very good in the lead role, and the viewer gets to feel the claustrophobia that Jennifer feels. "I wanted to make a ripple in the ocean. As Jennifer, newcomer Butler is a dream.
