The transfer case could be shifted on the fly in neutral or with clutch depressed. Drive in reverse as you switch back to 4Wheel high. I need to understand this for my plans. I was parked and put the gear shift into neutral. Check the wiring on the shifter module motor on the transfer case and see if the wires are split or damaged. Thanks a lot it worked on my 2003 and saved my ass from getting chewed out by my dad. But first I tried the turn key, put into neutral and start, it went click and the 4wd low light went out!!! Everything seems to be working as expected except the transfer case won t shift into 4 low. I followed the instructions given here and shifted to neutral, switched the 4x4 to 2H and booom, worked like magic. And yes, im having it in neutral when trying. From energizing the relay and thus commanding the shift into low at the transfer case. My CJ3A shifts just fine in all gears and ranges.

The downside of AWD is long-term reliability. Reversed it once went right out of 4w low. My car has an automatic transmission. In this setting, your front wheels and tires help provide the traction needed to overcome these different road conditions. I have done the same, as far as unlocking the hubs, then running in four wheel low. Works well in getting out to pick up hay bales, and just letting the Jeep idle across the field. We tried all the above nothing worked, I accidentally hit the overdrive button and when I shut it off, the four wheel came out of four low to just four by four and I switched to 2 wheel and it itself!!!
