Several years ago, the standing committee, finding that it could not create a bright line test, declined to issue a formal advisory opinion on foreclosure assistance companies and decided to investigate companies and individuals on a case-by-case basis. The types of cases the standing committee saw this past year are similar to those in past years--immigration, foreclosure assistance and loan modification companies, and nonlawyer document preparers to name a few.
