As I said earlier, I think there is a place for this sort of very hard quiz bowl. Some might use ACF Fall as an example, but good HS players are often discouraged from playing that anyway. For many high school players starting out in college, however, the trend feels like it's toward the latter, and I think the frustration from studying something for hours and not seeing significant improvement weighs greater than any feeling of joy from getting good buzzes/30's from stuff you've been interested in. It's also impossible to implement for obvious institutional reasons - the people who do the most work to support this game outside of the roles of club logistics are largely older players and their friends, and they'll obviously fight to continue their own inclusion, and when the argument boils down to "these players are too good" then frankly it does look like you don't want to lose.
