McClure was, for a handful of years, the hero of horror and monster movies having starred in a series of dinosaur adventures for Amicus/AIP among a few other fantastical films. No one obviously expected this movie to be the next Citizen Kane or anything like that (the ending was even admitted to be a complete rip off of Alien). Fred Olen Ray would utilize this editing scheme in many of his later 80's action movies. The creature outfits had me in fits of laughter (think Ghoulies but with Stretch Armstrong arms), but I respect that they were decent considering the year of release and the film's budget. But the film is shot in such a way as to leave them partially obscured for most of the film, choosing the 'less is more' approach in order to build mystery and tension. The Indian saves him, though. These were the very scenes that Peeters refused to shoot, and even the main cast was unaware of it. Miss Salmon, 1980 and the K-Fish DJ|. I have a hard time believing that a single movie could employ absolutely every bad movie cliche in the book by accident, and I find it equally hard to believe that the film s exploration of the usually unstated implications of the ever-popular theme of ghastly monsters being smitten by interspecies infatuation could have happened unintentionally. That is, if it were a drama that's the story that it would tell. It was directed by Barbara Peeters, which may surprise some people when you consider the films subject matter of murder and rape. The characters aren't particularly likable (they usually aren't in films like this) and the finale (not the "shock" ending, but the film's true climax) leaves so many questions unanswered, it's sure to leave a sour taste in your mouth, particularly now, years later, knowing there will never be a sequel that explains a few of the holes.
